Sammy Gyamfi Sues Afia Schwarzenegger for Defamation

Samuel Gyamfi, also known as Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, has taken legal action against outspoken media personality Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa—popularly known as Afia Schwarzenegger. The defamation suit, lodged at the Accra High Court, seeks GH₵10 million in damages for statements Gyamfi claims were both false and damaging to his reputation.

The legal action, filed by Sustineri Attorneys PRUC on behalf of Mr. Gyamfi, targets a TikTok video published by Schwarzenegger, in which she made personal and financial allegations against the CEO. In the now-viral video, she remarked in Twi:

“Tell Sammy Gyamfi’s wife that I am greeting her. Her husband is still buying cars for girls in Legon… I am holding the list… Even his wife’s younger sister has bought a house in the US.”

These remarks, translated into English and presented in court documents, were characterized by Gyamfi’s legal team as defamatory. The team argues the statements falsely paint their client as engaging in extramarital affairs and misusing public funds, damaging both his personal and professional standing.

Sammy Gyamfi is seeking:

  • General and exemplary damages totalling GH₵10 million
  • A permanent injunction preventing further publication of such claims
  • A public apology and full retraction, to be published in the Daily Graphic for three consecutive days
  • The same correction to appear on every platform where the original video was posted

Afia Schwarzenegger’s Reaction

In an apparent response to the suit, Afia Schwarzenegger posted another TikTok video in which she declared she would not contest the legal action. She further remarked that Sammy Gyamfi should be congratulated in advance for his “victory.”

What Happens Next

The Accra High Court has issued an eight-day deadline for Schwarzenegger to respond formally to the writ once the legal documents are served. It remains to be seen whether the case will proceed to full trial or be resolved outside of court.
