Controversial Ghanaian televangelist and founder of Heaven Way Church, Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Evelyn Amoah at the Accra Circuit Court. This followed Nana Agradaa’s conviction on charges of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretences.

The sentencing comes after a prolonged legal battle that started when a 2022 video surfaced online. In it, Nana Agradaa was seen inviting worshippers to an all-night service at her church in Weija. She promised to “double any amount of money” they brought.

The promise turned out to be a ruse. Dozens of followers later reported that they were scammed, and law enforcement began investigations.

Before sentencing, the court ordered that Nana Agradaa undergo a pregnancy test. This is a routine process under Ghanaian law for female convicts facing jail terms. According to eyewitness reports, she was seen leaving the courthouse on Thursday, July 3, 2025, and returning shortly after, visibly distressed.

Justice Amoah did not mince words during the ruling, stressing the seriousness of taking advantage of people’s faith and desperation. “Using religion as a cover for deception is a betrayal of trust,” she said.

Nana Agradaa’s sentencing has triggered widespread discussions online. Many are questioning how long self-styled spiritual leaders will continue to mislead unsuspecting followers unchecked.
