Alarming Manso Bonteso clash injured five people critically

5 persons in critical condition after clash between residents of Manso Bonteso and anti-galamsey taskforce

An alarming Manso Bonteso clash has critically injured five persons. You must understand this tense situation. Therefore, police officers and local residents fought violently. Indeed, the police task force seized an excavator on August 13. Furthermore, community members, including the assembly member, quickly blocked the officers’ path. Consequently, the angry crowd threw stones and other objects at the task force. Similarly, the officers fired warning shots to disperse the crowd. Still, the confrontation escalated dangerously. Actually, five people sustained serious gunshot wounds. You must note they are now recovering in hospitals. For example, some are at Nkawie Government Hospital.

Additionally, police officers also suffered injuries. Reports indicate that ASP Bawah Abdul Jalil and G/Sgt. Agblekpe Mawuena Yao were hurt. Despite this, the task force managed to regain control. Then they arrested the assembly member, Patrick Asare. They also arrested two others, Osei Vasco and Akwesi Amponsah. Finally, they transported one seized excavator to a police station. However, they left a second excavator behind due to the chaos.

Some angry Manso Bonteso residents believe the police acted unfairly. They claim the task force unlawfully seized one excavator. It was parked at a private residence, not a mining site. Moreover, residents feel the police are unfairly targeting small-scale miners. They worry these actions could undermine anti-illegal mining efforts. Consequently, some youth are appealing for government help. They want job opportunities in the mining sector. On the other hand, the District Chief Executive, Hon Manu Prince Maurice, confirmed the arrests. He also acknowledged one excavator was parked at a house. He admits the confrontation was unnecessary. Therefore, he calls for calm in the community. He assures everyone the situation is now under control. Likewise, he promises to maintain peace. He also encourages the youth to respect the law. Clearly, this unfortunate incident highlights a very tense situation.
