Ashanti Police Seize Guns, Arrest Three Suspects
During a recent operation, Ashanti police seize guns and detained three individuals carrying illegal firearms. The suspects are Mohammed Ali, 25, Haruna Issah, 42, and blacksmith Yaw Appiah, 55.
On Sunday at 1400hrs, officers patrolling the Atwima Trabuom and Nweneso areas stopped Ali and Issah riding an unregistered Haojin motorbike. A search revealed three locally made pistols hidden in a bag. Police immediately arrested both men.
Ali admitted he obtained the firearms from Appiah in Nkawie. Officers quickly arrested Appiah. They found no additional weapons at his premises.
All three suspects remain in custody to assist ongoing investigations. Police secured the firearms as evidence and plan to present the suspects in court promptly.
Meanwhile, the Kuntanase District Patrol Team intercepted a suspicious white Toyota Sienta along the Aputuoagya–Bekwai road. Two men fled into nearby bushes, abandoning the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle uncovered an AK-47 rifle, another locally made firearm, two loaded AK-47 magazines, four packets of ammunition, and seven loose rounds. Officers also recovered Wellington boots, a Huawei smartphone, Cowrie shells, sandals, a Ghana Card, and a temporary driver’s license.
The vehicle is impounded at Kuntanase Police Station, and all items remain as exhibits for ongoing investigations.
Ashanti police seize guns not only to detain suspects but also to ensure community safety. Citizens are urged to provide information on illegal weapons by calling 191, 18555, or 112.
The Ashanti Regional Police remain committed to preventing violent crime and protecting residents. Their ongoing operations aim to keep the region secure and reduce illegal firearms circulation.
