Children’s Support Fund for helicopter crash victims surpasses GHS 2.3m

The Children’s Support Fund established by President John Dramani Mahama to secure the future of children who lost their parents in the tragic August 6 military helicopter crash has received over GHS 2.3 million in donations.

A public notice issued by the Presidency on Tuesday August 19 confirmed that the fund has so far accrued GHS 2,315,000.00, with contributions from both financial institutions and private companies.

The fund, announced by President Mahama during the state funeral held on August 15, 2025, is designed to guarantee the long-term welfare—especially education and healthcare—of the children of all eight victims of the crash.

Leading the way in corporate support, Stanbic Bank Ghana donated an initial GHS 500,000.00 as seed capital. Additional contributions have come from the following companies:

  2. GB Foods Ghana
  3. Sunda FM Manufacturing Ltd
  4. Sage Distribution Ltd
  5. Quantum Oil Terminals
  6. Quantum LPG Logistics Ltd
  7. Newgas Cylinder Ltd
  8. Quantum Terminals PLC

The fund is being coordinated by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, who stated that a weekly list of donors will be published to ensure transparency.

Cheques and bank drafts should be made payable to: CHILDREN SUPPORT FUND 6825.

The fund was established in response to the national tragedy that claimed the lives of prominent government ministers, including Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, along with other senior officials and military personnel.

The Presidency has reiterated its commitment to supporting the bereaved families and ensuring that the children affected by the tragedy are not left behind.
