DSTV pricing questioned by GOGO in bold open letter to MultiChoice

Open letter from GOGO demands transparency in DSTV pricing

DSTV pricing questioned by GOGO—officially known as The Good Governance (GOGO) Agenda by Kwaku Azar—came into sharp focus after a compelling open letter addressed directly to MultiChoice Ghana. The letter, bold in tone and purpose, demands honest answers to what many Ghanaian viewers have long suspected.

Issued on August 3, 2025, the letter directly responded to DSTV’s recent media statement, which attempted to justify current pricing despite pressure from Communications Minister Samuel George. However, GOGO contends that the company sidestepped the core concern—why are DSTV prices in Ghana significantly higher than in Nigeria, Kenya, or South Africa, even after adjusting for currency and cost-of-living differences?

Rather than providing concrete explanations, DSTV offered what GOGO called “generic justifications.” Consequently, the letter posed several pointed questions. For instance, are Ghana’s macroeconomic challenges truly more severe than those in neighboring countries? If so, where is the comparative data to support this? Moreover, what portion of DSTV Ghana’s pricing stems from satellite costs, licensing, taxation, or profit margins?

To move the conversation forward, GOGO insisted:
“We don’t need alternative engagement avenues. We need alternative pricing models that are transparent, fair, and friendly to Ghanaian consumers.”

Not only did GOGO acknowledge DSTV’s longstanding service in Ghana, but it also clarified that decades of operation should not be mistaken for immunity from scrutiny. Therefore, Ghanaians deserve more than vague corporate language—they deserve accountability.

Importantly, the letter didn’t just criticise. It invited MultiChoice to begin a new chapter—one rooted in transparency. GOGO stressed that if the company truly values “constructive engagement,” then it should start by disclosing its cost structure and comparing it across its African markets.

Although DSTV has yet to respond with fresh details, the GOGO letter has sparked widespread public support. Clearly, many customers relate to the frustration of paying more for less. Additionally, social media continues to amplify these sentiments, urging MultiChoice to provide answers—not evasions.

In the end, GOGO’s powerful advocacy reframed the conversation. The issue isn’t just pricing—it’s principle. While the debate continues, Ghanaian viewers await not just reassurances, but real reforms.
