EC Prints Akwatia Ballot Papers Ahead of September By-Election

The Electoral Commission (EC) prints Akwatia ballot papers today to prepare for the September 2 parliamentary by-election. The EC Director of Electoral Services, Benjamin Bano-Bioh, confirmed, “We start printing ballots today to ensure readiness for Akwatia voters.” Furthermore, he reminded all political parties to follow election rules.

Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, met party representatives at Police headquarters. He outlined security measures and explained how officers would prevent election-related violence. With EC printing Akwatia ballot papers, officials emphasized coordination with security agencies.

Mr Bano-Bioh stated that procurement of election materials is complete. He added, “We are fully prepared, and political parties must respect procedures to ensure a smooth by-election.” Additionally, he referenced past issues in Ablekuma North, noting that police have strengthened measures to avoid repeats.

The by-election became necessary after the death of NPP MP Ernest Yaw Kumi on July 7, 2025. Therefore, with EC printing Akwatia ballot papers, voters will have secure and ready ballots on election day.

IGP Yohuno detailed how officers would monitor polling stations and intervene promptly if disruptions occur. “We want the Akwatia by-election to be among the safest and most successful in Ghana,” he said. Moreover, he invited political parties to raise concerns and propose solutions.

Sofo Tanko Rashid, NDC Deputy National Director of Elections and IT, assured that his party would follow all security protocols. Likewise, NPP National Youth Organiser Henry Nana Boakye pledged full cooperation. Both parties emphasized the importance of peaceful voting.

Finally, with EC printing Akwatia ballot papers today, the commission strengthens readiness and ensures voters can cast ballots safely. Meanwhile, officials and security agencies continue preparing to deliver a transparent and incident-free by-election.
