GES Promotion Deadline Extended Due to Portal Issues
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced an extension. They have moved the GES promotion deadline for teachers. This will give all eligible teachers ample time to complete their submissions. The GES originally opened the application portal on Monday, August 18, 2025. It had a scheduled close on Friday, September 5, 2025. However, it encountered technical challenges. Consequently, some applicants could not access the portal. This extension, therefore, aims to ensure a fair process for everyone.
In a post on Facebook on Thursday, August 28, 2025, GES assured teachers of its commitment. The statement said its technical team is working to restore the system. They want to improve the application process. “Our ultimate goal is to ensure that we fully support every eligible teacher,” the statement read. They must go through a stress-free application process. A teacher must have served at least four years on their current rank. This is a crucial requirement.
The statement further encouraged all prospective applicants to remain calm. The technical team is working diligently. “As soon as we restore the portal, we will duly inform applicants to proceed with their submissions,” the statement said. The 2025 promotion exercise covers four ranks. These are Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Principal Superintendent. The service strictly allows only serving teachers who meet the eligibility requirements to apply.
In addition, the GES clarified the eligibility criteria. For instance, a Deputy Director applicant must have attained the rank of Assistant Director I in or before 2020. An Assistant Director I applicant must have been promoted to Assistant Director II in or before 2020. Similarly, a candidate for Assistant Director II must have held the rank of Principal Superintendent in or before 2020. A Principal Superintendent applicant must have attained the rank of Senior Superintendent I in or before 2020.
The GES also clarified the rules for academic qualifications. Teachers with an approved undergraduate degree will see an automatic placement at the Principal Superintendent level. However, those relying on Master’s or PhD qualifications must ensure the program has GES approval. They must also have obtained the degree after their last promotion. GES will only consider certificates earned in or before 2022 for promotions beyond Principal Superintendent. The new GES promotion deadline will accommodate these important checks.
