Ghana cocoa donation supports Palestine with 40 tonnes of aid

Ghana has delivered a powerful message of solidarity to Palestine — not just through words, but through action. The country has donated 40 metric tonnes of cocoa products, including Golden Tree chocolates, to families in Gaza facing humanitarian hardship.
President John Dramani Mahama presented the items to Palestine’s Ambassador to Ghana, Abdul Fattah Ahmed Khalil al-Sattari, at a ceremony at Jubilee House on August 1, 2025. He described the donation as an expression of Ghana’s enduring friendship and shared values with the Palestinian people.

“Cocoa stands for who we are — resilient, generous, and hopeful,” President Mahama said. “These products also nourish the body. We hope they bring comfort during these trying times.”
The President noted Ghana’s longstanding support for Palestine, recalling the opening of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s office in Accra in 1986. He also highlighted recent diplomatic visits between both countries.
Reaffirming Ghana’s support for peace, he called on global leaders to push for a two-state solution that respects the rights of both Palestinians and Israelis. “Ghana remains firm in backing dialogue grounded in international law,” he said.
He also urged Israel to open its borders to humanitarian relief. “We must act to preserve life and protect dignity. These are universal values,” he added.
The Ghana Cocoa Board and the Cocoa Processing Company worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organize the donation. According to the President, this act combines both diplomacy and compassion.
Ambassador Al-Sattari thanked the government and people of Ghana. “You cannot imagine the joy this chocolate will bring. Even before tasting it, our children will feel remembered,” he said.

He explained that Gaza’s people have faced extreme food shortages due to the conflict and aid restrictions. “Our people have endured pain for far too long,” he said.
He also recognized countries like Egypt and France for championing peace through a two-state solution. Yet he singled out Ghana’s gesture for its warmth and simplicity. “This isn’t just food. It’s hope.”
Senior government officials, diplomats, and humanitarian representatives attended the event. President Mahama ended with a message directed to Palestinians worldwide:
“You are not alone. Ghana stands with you. May peace prevail.”
