La Homowo Festival: 25-Day Ban on Noise-Making Begins August 11 – See Full List of Affected Areas

In preparation for the 2025 La Homowo Festival, the La State Council—working in partnership with the La Dadekotopon, Ayawaso West, La Nkwantanang-Madina, and Adentan Municipal Assemblies—has announced a 25-day ban on noise-making.
The ban will take effect from 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, and will remain in force until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025. This measure forms part of annual rituals aimed at preserving the solemnity and cultural significance of the Homowo celebration, held this year under the theme: “Respect For All: The Foundation for a Stronger Society.”
The noise restriction applies to a wide area, including:
La Township, Kaajiano, Ako Adiei, Nyaniba Estates, Labone, Cantonments, Flagstaff House Area, 37 Military Hospital Area, Tse-Addo, Burma Camp, Legon, Shiashi, Bawaleshi, Okponglo, Mpenhuasem, Ogbojo, Ashale Botwe, Agbogba, Madina-Nkwantanang-Atiman, Adentan, Oyarifa, Teiman, Ayi Mensah, Frafraha, Amanfro, Ashye, Amrahia, and Maale J.
All individuals, as well as churches, mosques, hotels, eateries, businesses, and other establishments operating within these areas, are expected to fully comply with the directive. The council has warned that traditional sanctions will be imposed on anyone found in violation, emphasizing that enforcement will be strict.
The Homowo Festival is a significant cultural event among the Ga people, commemorating the end of a historic famine and celebrating the blessings of plenty. The noise ban is an important tradition that helps maintain the spiritual and cultural integrity of the festival.
The La State Council extended its best wishes to all residents, stating:
“Niimei wish the People of La and all residents of the La Traditional Area a peaceful and successful Homowo Celebration.”
Given that the ban includes major commercial, residential, and diplomatic zones such as Cantonments and the Flagstaff House Area, the participating assemblies are encouraging full cooperation to uphold tradition while minimizing disruptions to daily life.
