Regional Minister Calls Out Failing MMDCEs on the Job
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has expressed strong dissatisfaction. She called out some Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). She accused them of complacency and inefficiency. In fact, she stated that MMDCEs failing on job are a big problem. She spoke during an engagement with the media and the MMDCEs in Accra on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Madam Ocloo said the failure of certain chief executives was undermining government efforts. They are failing to address the region’s pressing challenges. These issues include poor sanitation and urban planning.
“Let me go straight to say that I am disappointed at the level of inefficiency and complacency exhibited by some of our chief executives,” she stated. “At this stage, excuses are nothing but an embarrassment to the people we serve,” she charged. According to her, leadership is not about occupying an office. It is not about enjoying the perks of a position. Instead, leadership is about delivering results. The Minister further noted that many MMDCEs struggle with waste management and traffic congestion. These issues, for instance, require urgent action.
Linda Ocloo is a strong advocate for good governance. Her stern warning, therefore, highlights a crucial point. Leadership is a responsibility, not a privilege. She said, “Leadership is not about sitting in offices and enjoying the perks of your position. It is about delivering results, and right now, many of you are simply sleeping on the job,” the Minister charged. These comments, in addition, demonstrate her commitment to local government accountability. The Minister’s message is clear. She will not tolerate underperformance from her officials. She expects them to work diligently. They must also deliver tangible improvements for citizens.
Her words are a wake-up call for all local government leaders. The MMDCEs failing on job must change their approach. The Regional Minister’s tough stance has received praise from some members of the public. They believe such a public rebuke is long overdue. They say it will motivate underperforming officials. It will also hopefully lead to better services and development in the Greater Accra Region.
