Agric Minister Explains Why National Best Farmer Has Not Received Cash Prize

The 2024 National Best Farmer Is Cash Prize Was Not Rewarded By The Akufo-Addo Gov’t – Agric Minister

Clearly, the National Best Farmer cash prize issue has triggered public concern. However, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has set the record straight. According to him, the current administration did not cause the delay. He attributed the non-payment to the previous Akufo-Addo government.

Recently, 2024 award recipient Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong personally visited the minister’s office. He complained about the government’s failure to deliver the promised reward. In response, Eric Opoku assured him that the matter had finally been resolved.

In a video shared widely on social media, the minister disclosed plans to present all pending awards this month. “Most of those who received awards during the 2024 National Farmers’ Day have not received their prize money,” he said. “We have now secured the funds that the previous government promised.”

Furthermore, the awards will be presented on August 6, 2025. With support from ADB Bank, the Ministry of Agriculture plans to fulfil the cash obligations to Nana Owusu and three other unpaid awardees. “We have invited them too, and we will give them their money,” he added.

This delay comes at a time when trust in public sector accountability continues to face scrutiny. The Minister emphasized that resolving this issue reflects the current administration’s commitment to transparency and fairness.

Award recipients, the public, and the agriculture sector at large can finally breathe a sigh of relief. After months of uncertainty, the long-overdue prizes are set for delivery.

Ghana’s farmers deserve more than applause—they deserve their rewards on time. Let this mark a new chapter where promises made to the nation’s heroes are promises kept.
