NDC Tamale Central Primaries Set For September 6
The NDC Tamale Central primaries will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025. The ruling National Democratic Congress set the date. This event, therefore, precedes a by-election. The Electoral Commission (EC) scheduled that by-election for September 30, 2025. It will elect a new Member of Parliament (MP) for the area. The constituency seat became vacant. This happened, in fact, after the passing of MP Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. He lost his life in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey signed a statement. The statement outlined the primaries’ guidelines. Prospective aspirants must pay GH¢5,000 for forms. Furthermore, they must pay GH¢40,000 as a filing fee. Women and persons with disabilities, however, will receive a 50 per cent reduction. This reduction makes the fee more accessible. The timetable for the primaries is strict. For instance, nominations opened on August 21, 2025. They closed on August 23, 2025. Meanwhile, the party set vetting for August 26.
The NDC will publish a final list. This list will name all approved aspirants. The party will make it public on August 27. This list comes just before the NDC Tamale Central primaries. The party is moving quickly. It wants to fill the vacant seat. The unfortunate passing of Dr. Mohammed necessitated this fast action. The party, in addition, aims for a smooth transition. The by-election itself is highly anticipated. Many people will watch the primaries closely. They want to see who will contest the main by-election. The party is leaving nothing to chance.
