Shatta Wale fans protest at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) headquarters in Accra escalated into chaos on Thursday, August 21, 2025. The commotion followed the detention of the Ghanaian dancehall star over tax obligations linked to the purchase of a yellow Lamborghini.
The management of the SM boss confirmed in a press release on August 20 that Shatta Wale presented himself to EOCO with his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo. They explained that the musician was cooperating with authorities on ongoing investigations. The statement urged fans to remain calm while the legal team worked to secure his release.
Despite that appeal, hundreds of fans converged at EOCO early the next morning. Many of them led chants, sang Shatta Wale’s songs, and demanded his immediate release. Their agitation quickly grew into heated confrontations with the police stationed outside the compound.
Videos circulating on social media show an officer exchanging angry words with some agitated supporters. The argument escalated to the point where the officer had to be restrained by a colleague and several bystanders. The protest created traffic disruptions and drew a crowd of onlookers. Supporters insisted they would not leave until Shatta Wale regained his freedom.
