Tasty Tom tomato mix pulled from shelves over bloating fears

Look in your kitchen! Following an FDA directive, the Tasty Tom Tomato Mix was recalled.

Nutrifoods Ghana has recalled all sizes of its Tasty Tom tomato mix following a government safety alert. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), working with National Security, flagged multiple incidents of bloated tomato cans and pouches. As a result, the company is urging consumers to return all affected products immediately.

The recall includes the 210g and 400g canned versions, as well as the 380g and 1.05kg pouch packs. According to Nutrifoods, the issue involves abnormal bloating in some sealed containers, which could signal deeper product integrity concerns. Although investigations are still ongoing, the company admitted it was acting under direct orders from the FDA.

Importantly, this is not an isolated quality check. The FDA is currently inspecting Nutrifoods’ Tema facility to confirm compliance with food safety standards. In response, Nutrifoods announced it is fully cooperating with the investigation and prioritizing transparency. The company also promised to identify the source of the issue and prevent future occurrences.

Meanwhile, customers in possession of the affected products have been asked to return them. They can go to Nutrifoods’ Tema office or any authorized distributor for an immediate replacement. Despite the setback, Nutrifoods has reassured the public of its commitment to safety. The company apologized to both customers and trade partners for the inconvenience, reaffirming its pledge to uphold stringent national food safety standards.

While the FDA continues to examine the cause of the bloating, no formal findings have been shared publicly. Still, the recall remains active, and the warning is clear.
