NPP Chairman’s Brother Dies During Police Operation in Techiman

NPP Chairman’s brother has died following a police operation in James Town, Techiman. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 1, 2025.
According to the Ghana Police Service, officers responded to a robbery alert in the area. During the operation, a suspect—later identified as Seidu Bukari—was fatally shot.
Police sources claim the suspect attempted to scale a wall and escape arrest. Law enforcement allege Seidu was part of a gang under investigation for previous robbery cases in Techiman.
However, the family of Seidu Bukari strongly disputes that narrative. They argue that Seidu had no criminal background and demand clarity about the circumstances leading to his death.
Family spokesperson, Alhaji Issah Mahmoud Ali, stated in an interview that “Seidu was not a criminal,” adding that they “reject the police report and demand a better explanation.”
The Police Service has not confirmed if the residence involved belonged to Bono East NPP Chairman, Ibrahim Baba Bukari, Seidu’s older brother.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing. The Inspector-General of Police has assigned a special team to review the case.
The situation continues to draw public interest. Both the police and the family await conclusive findings from the investigative teams.
