Villarreal support for Partey praised by Databank CEO

Addae-Mensah praised Villarreal for taking a principled stand, highlighting the importance of supporting players through legal challenges while respecting the principle of innocent until proven guilty.

Databank CEO Kojo Addae-Mensah has praised Villarreal support for Partey, highlighting the Spanish club’s backing of Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey. Speaking on the matter, Addae-Mensah said Villarreal acted responsibly while Partey faces serious legal allegations.

“The prosecutor wanted to end his career, but I’m happy that someone at Villarreal was sensible enough to uphold the principle that you are innocent until proven guilty,” Addae-Mensah said. “Most of these allegations eventually result in a not-guilty verdict. I really appreciate what Villarreal have done for him.”

Partey is currently facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving three women. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022, during his time playing in London.

He has been granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on September 2.

Addae-Mensah praised Villarreal for their principled stance, emphasizing the importance of supporting players during legal challenges. He noted that backing athletes while respecting the presumption of innocence is crucial for maintaining fairness in professional sports.

“Villarreal support for Partey sends a strong message about the importance of patience and fairness,” he added. “Players should not be judged before the courts deliver a verdict.”

The CEO’s comments come amid growing discussions about how clubs should handle players facing legal proceedings, reinforcing that clubs can protect their reputation while also respecting justice.
