NPP Raises Alarm Over Fake Police at Akwatia By-Election
Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has warned of possible infiltration during the Akwatia by-election. He alleges that unidentified individuals may attempt to impersonate police officers. Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, August 31, he stated his party received intelligence. According to the intelligence, some individuals, allegedly from the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions, plan to wear police uniforms. Furthermore, they plan to engage in unlawful activities on election day. This raises a major concern about the Akwatia by-election police force.
Mustapha urged the Ghana Police Service to ensure a peaceful process. He stressed that officers deployed for the polls must wear identifiable name tags. In addition, they must avoid covering their faces. He stated, “In our meeting with the police, we did indicate to them that we want to see the normal police operating standards where police uniforms have the name tags of the officers, and they should not be masked. So on Tuesday, any masked officer we see, we will count the person as not professional or a proper police person.” This is a critical step in maintaining security.
Mustapha stressed that the police must act swiftly to prevent infiltration. They must also guarantee a peaceful and credible electoral process. This issue poses a serious threat to the integrity of the vote. The Akwatia by-election police must be vigilant. The upcoming Akwatia by-election is scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025. It is a very important event for the community. Its integrity depends on the professionalism of all involved. The NPP hopes the police will take their warning seriously.
