Ian Oquaye: GHS2k Land Claim is Political Witch-hunt
The Tema Central NPP Constituency Secretary, Ian Oquaye, dismisses all allegations of wrongdoing. He claims the accusations are a political witch-hunt. Oquaye maintains they are targeting him. This is because of his political affiliation. In addition, he is a former protocol officer for the Tema Development Company (TDC). The TDC is accusing him of wrongdoing. They claim he illegally sold public land to his wife. Furthermore, the price was a mere GHS2,000. Indeed, the land was originally for a public toilet. This is a very serious claim.
The TDC Managing Director, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, addressed journalists in Accra. He said an internal investigation led to Mr. Oquaye’s contract termination. Nunekpeku explained the action is part of TDC’s broader efforts. They want to recover illegally acquired lands. They support infrastructure and housing development. Subsequently, they must reclaim all stolen property. Mr. Oquaye responded to the allegations. He spoke on Eyewitness News. Therefore, he argued that the land acquisition process was transparent. Consequently, he says they are unfairly targeting him. They target him because of his role as a political figure.
“I’m a public officer, I work with TDC, at the same time, I’m a constituency secretary of the NPP,” he said. He asked the public to “read between the lines.” He believes his position as a politician is the reason for the attacks. “When the government changes, they will definitely come after you, based on where you are coming from,” he stated. He added that he understands some of the things said against him perfectly. Yet still, he maintains his innocence. The Ian Oquaye political witch-hunt claim adds a new dimension to the dispute. Instead, it frames it as a politically motivated attack.
