Akwatia By-Election Call:Why NPP Shouldn’t Contest Akwatia
National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Asiedu Nketia recently spoke in Akwatia. He is campaigning there for the September 2, 2025, by-election. Nketia believes the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should have avoided the contest. He argues his party is already in government. Therefore, the NPP should cede the seat. He insists Akwatia deserves a member of parliament from the ruling party. This is his Akwatia by-election call.
Furthermore, a ruling party MP can deliver development. The NDC has the numbers in Parliament. Consequently, an NDC representative can help the community. They can bring about much-needed change. This is the main point of his argument. The NDC candidate, Bernard Bediako, is the person for the job. Bediako’s party has the power to act. In fact, Nketia made a strong case for his argument. He said the Akwatia people do not deserve an opposition MP.
He told the crowd that opposition MPs cannot deliver on promises. An opposition MP simply joins others in walkouts. They collect a salary but cannot effect change. A ruling party MP, in contrast, can bring development. He wants the Akwatia by-election to deliver a proactive leader. Nketia believes Bediako is that leader. The Akwatia people truly deserve a representative in power. They need someone who can work with the government. This Akwatia by-election call aims to secure a development-oriented representative.
The campaign continues for both parties. The by-election will take place soon. Akwatia voters will decide.
