NDC Tamale primaries: A Pledge for Credibility
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged a transparent and credible process for the upcoming NDC Tamale primaries. This follows the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Alhaji Murtala Muhammed. The by-election was necessary after a recent helicopter crash. It tragically claimed the lives of the MP and seven other people. Dr. Arnold Mashud, the NDC’s Northern Regional Director of Elections, gave the assurance. He spoke during an interview with Charles Owusu Kumi on Channel One Newsroom. Dr. Mashud said the party is ready to set a new standard for election management.
The primary marks a critical moment for the party. A credible process can strengthen party unity. Conversely, a flawed one can create division. According to Dr. Mashud, they are prepared for the challenge. He stated, “We as a party, we’re very ready to reset how the electioneering process and election management is done. So we are very ready to ensure we have a free, fair, credible election which will set the tone for a very formidable and united NDC in the Northern region.”
A total of twelve aspirants will contest the polls. In addition, three of the candidates are women. The primary election will take place at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. This event will draw significant attention from both within and outside the party. The NDC hopes to select a strong candidate. This candidate must then win the upcoming by-election. Furthermore, the selection process will test the party’s commitment to fairness and internal democracy.
Meanwhile, security remains a top priority. The Northern Regional Police Command has assured of maximum security during the polls. Regional Commander DCOP Wisdom Lavoe leads the security plan. He said police will deploy about 400 personnel to the stadium. Their mission is to maintain law and order. The personnel will be present before, during, and after the exercise. The police presence ensures a safe environment. This allows delegates to cast their votes without fear. Ultimately, the successful management of the NDC Tamale primaries could set a benchmark for future elections in the region.
