TDC Public Land Sale to NPP Official’s Wife for GHS 2k
The Tema Development Company (TDC) accuses a former staff member of a crime. He allegedly sold a public plot of land illegally. This suspect is also the Tema Central NPP Constituency Secretary. Furthermore, he previously served as a protocol officer for a former TDC Managing Director. According to TDC, he sold the land to his wife. For example, the price was a mere GHS 2,000. This TDC public land sale is a big controversy now. Therefore, TDC is working to recover illegally acquired lands. This effort aligns with their broader mission. They support infrastructure and housing development in the country. Indeed, the land was originally designated for a public toilet.
The Managing Director of TDC, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, addressed journalists in Accra. On Thursday, he explained an internal investigation led to the officer’s contract termination. He also confirmed the land has been retrieved. The plot is located behind Tema Secondary School. Ultimately, it is now for state development purposes. “The NPP Tema Central Constituency Secretary sold that place to the wife at the cost of GHS 2,000,” Nunekpeku stated. He has the documents and can make them available. “When I went into the matter, I said no way,” he recalled. “I engaged the woman and I terminated the contract.”
Nunekpeku also clarified his actions. “I am not grabbing any land,” he explained. “I am just doing the right thing for the Ghanaian.” He confirmed the contract termination. In fact, he added that the place is now for the state. It will be used as a public toilet. Meanwhile, Nunekpeku addressed a separate issue. The Peaceful Settlers’ Association made allegations against the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly. They accused the assembly of trying to seize lands. The association claims legal ownership. A court injunction is in place. Consequently, Mr. Nunekpeku stated TDC is engaging all stakeholders. They want a peaceful resolution. This TDC public land sale incident highlights the need for accountability in land management.
