TDC Defamation Lawsuit Filed Against Crusading Guide
Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, the Managing Director of TDC Ghana Limited, has filed a TDC defamation lawsuit against several parties. This lawsuit targets Kweku Baako Media Limited, the Editor-in-Chief of The New Crusading Guide, M’Ideas Group, and Roger A. Agana over alleged defamatory publications. Therefore, Nunekpeku is seeking a perpetual injunction. This would restrain the defendants, their agents, or assigns from publishing or causing to be published any statements deemed defamatory against him. Furthermore, he is demanding general, aggravated, and/or exemplary damages. Additionally, he is seeking an order directing the defendants to issue an unqualified apology and retraction. This retraction must have equal prominence in the newspaper and on their websites.
The plaintiff is also seeking costs, including solicitor’s fees, and any other orders the court may consider appropriate. Samora Cann, Esq. of Machel Stanley Corporate & Commercial Lawyers filed the legal action on behalf of Nunekpeku. The writ commands the defendants to enter an appearance within eight days of being served or risk a judgment in default. For this reason, the legal action has captured widespread attention. The TDC defamation lawsuit arises from allegations that the defendants published a story. The story claimed the TDC boss was implicated in a land-grabbing scandal.
This legal action follows a recent report where Mr. Nunekpeku clarified his position on land issues at TDC. He denied any involvement in illegal land sales, stating he was actively working to recover state-owned lands.
