NIA chases illegal holders: Foreigners urged to get proper IDs
The National Identification Authority officially NIA chases illegal holders of the national identity card. The state agency recently announced a strategic collaboration with the [Ghana Association of Banks] (GAB). This partnership aims to identify non-Ghanaians possession the document unlawfully. Specifically, the crackdown targets foreigners who obtained cards meant strictly for citizens.
Currently, the law reserves the standard [Ghana Card] for nationals only. However, some foreign nationals acquire this specific document through illegal means. Consequently, the NIA chases illegal holders to protect the national registry’s integrity. This move also ensures the credibility of financial transactions across the country.
Therefore, the authority advises all foreign residents to do the right thing. They must obtain the designated [Non-Citizen Identity Card]. The government designs this alternative specifically for foreign residents and permanent residents. It grants them legal identification status within the country. Thus, holding the citizen version constitutes a criminal offense.
The collaboration with the banks strengthens this enforcement significantly. Financial institutions will now scrutinize identification documents with greater intensity. They will flag any suspicious cards during [banking transactions]. Subsequently, the police will apprehend and investigate these suspects.
Moreover, this initiative enhances the nation’s overall [identity management] system. It prevents fraudsters from using the card for illicit activities. The authority demands strict compliance from everyone residing in Ghana.
In addition, the NIA urges the general public to assist security agencies. Citizens should report any suspected cases immediately. The authority provided a specific hotline for these whistleblowers. Ultimately, the NIA chases illegal holders to restore order in the system.
