Murder suspect appears before court after officer’s brutal killing

Bright Aweh, also known by the aliases Robert and Highest Bright, was arraigned before the Kaneshie District Court on a provisional murder charge. He is accused of killing Stephen King Amoah, an officer with the Ghana Immigration Service.

The accused was not asked to plead. The court remanded him into police custody until August 8, 2025. Prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Apewa Achana stated that investigators required more time to collect evidence and finalize the case.

Charred body of officer discovered after mysterious disappearance

Mr. Amoah went missing on July 3, 2025, after he left his residence at Ashongman Estates to meet a friend. Several days later, his charred remains were found in a drain near Aboum Junction, Kwabenya.

Police believe Bright Aweh was the last person to speak to Amoah before his disappearance. This critical lead eventually led to his arrest.

Family grieves as courtroom fills with anger and emotion

During the hearing, relatives of the deceased filled the courtroom in red and black apparel. Their shirts bore a powerful message: “Justice for Stephen King Amoah.”

Family members expressed visible frustration. Many wept quietly. Others were outraged over the gruesome nature of the officer’s death.

Friend commends police and calls for swift justice

A close friend of the late officer, Mr. Gamel Abubakar, expressed appreciation for the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to the case.

“We are devastated by Stephen’s loss, but the police have done their job with diligence. We hope justice is served,” he said.

Take-home message

The remand of Bright Aweh marks a major step in the search for justice in the murder of Stephen King Amoah. The grief of family and friends is still raw, but there is hope that justice will be swift and fair.

The next court date, August 8, could bring more clarity. Until then, the nation watches closely, standing in solidarity with a family left shattered by violence.
