Kumasi on edge: Another daylight shooting deepens panic in Asawase

Second AK-47 shooting rocks Kumasi
Fear gripped Kumasi again Friday evening after another brazen shooting near Manhyia roundabout.
Eyewitnesses said two armed men on a motorbike gunned down a man just as he approached his car near OTEC FM in Sabon Zongo. The attackers fled the scene immediately.
Police have not yet identified the victim. However, authorities confirmed that empty AK-47 shells were retrieved from the scene.
Linked to earlier Asawase killing?

This is the second similar attack in less than a week. On July 22, 2025, Abdul-Malik Azenba, the Kusasi Chief, was shot and killed in his residence at Asawase F-Line. That incident also involved assailants using a motorbike and AK-47.
So far, no arrests have been made. The pattern of both attacks—motorbike ambushes with high-powered rifles—has raised alarms across the Ashanti Region.
Police tighten grip on Asawase
In response, police have flooded Asawase and nearby areas with tactical teams and armed patrols. A manhunt is underway, but residents say fear is spreading faster than reassurance.
People living in Sabon Zongo and F-Line have urged authorities to act swiftly to prevent more bloodshed.
Take-home message
Two killings within days—both with AK-47s, both by motorbike gunmen—have put Kumasi on edge.
Authorities must act with urgency and transparency. Justice, visibility, and protection are the only answers that will restore public trust and safety.
If you know something, say something. Lives depend on it.
