IGP Vows Justice After Deadly Shootings Rock Asawase Community

Ghana’s IGP Leads Crackdown After Deadly Shootings in Asawase

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has vowed to bring justice to the victims of two recent fatal shootings that have shaken the Asawase community in the Ashanti Region.

The IGP, accompanied by a high-level delegation of police officials and investigators, arrived in Asawase on a fact-finding mission aimed at uncovering the truth behind the alarming incidents. His visit follows the shocking murder of Mohammed Madi Suleman, a 60-year-old man who was gunned down on Friday, July 25, while returning to his car after dining at a local eatery.

According to eyewitnesses, unknown assailants on a motorbike approached Suleman and opened fire before fleeing the scene. The tragic killing has left residents gripped with fear and demanding swift justice.

What makes the situation even more disturbing is that this incident occurred shortly after the death of a local chief under similar circumstances—heightening concerns over rising insecurity in the area.

In response, top officials from the Ghana Police Service, led by the IGP, visited both crime scenes. Dr. Yohuno expressed strong commitment to ensuring that those responsible are identified and brought to book.

“We will not rest until the perpetrators behind these heinous crimes are arrested and prosecuted,” the IGP firmly stated during the visit.

DCOP Vance Gariba, Director General of Operations at the Ghana Police Service, reiterated this assurance. He pledged that officers would leave no stone unturned in their investigations and promised an increased police presence in the community.

“We are enhancing patrols and community surveillance to restore public confidence,” he noted.

In line with emergency measures, the police were also directed to strictly enforce the ban on motorbike movement after 7 p.m., a directive already in place by the Ashanti Regional Security Council.

Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased expressed their deep grief and called on authorities to deliver justice swiftly. Mohammed Madi Suleman’s body has since been transported to Accra for burial, following Islamic rites observed by his family.

As investigations continue, the people of Asawase are watching closely, hoping for decisive action to prevent further violence. With the Inspector General’s personal involvement and renewed police operations, there is cautious optimism that justice will soon be served—and safety restored.
