Police refute raid at NPP Chairman’s house in Techiman
Police refute raid at the Bono East Regional Chairman’s house in Techiman, rejecting claims of a targeted operation that ended in the death of a relative.
The Ghana Police Service says officers from the Bono East Command responded to a robbery alert at 1:20 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025. Upon arrival, they spotted suspects trying to scale a wall and flee the area.
An officer shot one suspect, later identified as Seidu Bukari, during the chase. Police rushed him to the hospital. Doctors pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.
Media reports claimed officers raided the residence of Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the NPP Bono East Regional Chairman. Police dismissed these reports. “We wish to categorically state that the claim is false. The Police has not undertaken any such raid,” their official statement said.
According to investigators, Seidu Bukari belonged to a robbery gang that had long terrorized Techiman residents. He had participated in motorcycle thefts and resold them in Kumasi. Police linked him to a separate case still under investigation.
Though family members say Seidu left his brother’s house moments before the shooting, police maintain that intelligence placed the gang in the vicinity that night.
After the confrontation, police recovered a motorcycle and robbery tools. Officers have launched a manhunt to capture the remaining suspects.
To promote transparency, the Inspector-General of Police deployed experts from the CID, Police Professional Standards Bureau, and Intelligence Directorate. Their investigation aims to clarify every detail surrounding the event.
With public emotion running high, facts must lead the conversation. The truth behind the Techiman incident will emerge—but speculation must not replace evidence.
