NPP grants amnesty to suspended members and others

The New Patriotic Party has granted a general amnesty to all suspended members and those with pending disciplinary cases. The decision was made to foster unity and reconciliation within the party.
Acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey, confirmed this in an August 16, 2025, press release. He wrote that the National Council resolved on July 25, 2025, to grant a general amnesty to all affected members. This directive immediately lifts suspensions and waives ongoing proceedings against them.
Buttey further advised party leadership at all levels to stop arbitrary suspensions. All future disciplinary matters, he stressed, must align with the party’s constitution. This measure, he explains, strengthens solidarity as the party prepares for upcoming political tasks. Members who previously forfeited their membership can now apply for reinstatement at the national secretariat.
Upon reinstatement, members cannot contest any internal party election for two years. The party’s decision reflects its commitment to internal cohesion.
This strategic move seeks to strengthen the party’s internal structure and foster a united front for future political challenges. The amnesty signals a clear intent to prioritize internal cohesion and constitutional adherence moving forward.
