2025 BECE Results Released, With Many Results Cancelled
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2025 BECE results. Over 600,000 candidates are now eligible for placement in senior high, technical, and vocational schools. WAEC, however, canceled or withheld many results due to exam irregularities.
The council has taken serious measures against malpractice. It canceled the full results for 177 candidates. It also canceled the subject results for 718 candidates. Additionally, WAEC has withheld the full results of 93 candidates. It has also withheld the subject results of 1,240 candidates. The council also canceled the subject results of some candidates from 119 schools. It also withheld the subject results of some candidates from 87 schools for further scrutiny. WAEC says it will release or cancel withheld results by September 6, 2025.
These punitive measures were approved on Friday, August 15, at the 36th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for the BECE. The committee made its decisions after completing investigations into irregularities. They looked at cases detected during the conduct of the BECE. They also investigated cases found during the marking of scripts.
In a statement signed by John Kapi, the Head of Public Affairs for WAEC, the council told candidates with canceled or withheld results to visit its official website. They must click on the “withheld/cancelled” button on the homepage to see why. For those with withheld results, the website will provide information on the “next line of action.”
A total of 603,328 candidates from 20,395 schools took the exam. This number included 297,250 males and 306,078 females. The examination was conducted at 2,237 centers nationwide. WAEC also accommodated special needs candidates. This included 72 with visual impairment, 239 with hearing impairment, and 161 with other needs.
WAEC said it will dispatch the results of all school candidates to their respective schools. It will send them through metropolitan, municipal, and district directors of education. The council also warned all stakeholders to be careful. Fraudsters may promise to upgrade results for a fee. The council states that all 2025 BECE results are secure.
