A shocking viral domestic assault video led to the arrest of an estranged husband and his siblings in Ofankor. Harriet Amuzu, 32, suffered the brutal attack. Specifically, her estranged husband, John Odartey Lamptey (also known as Nii Adjei), assaulted her. He reportedly attacked Amuzu after she refused his sexual advances. Lamptey had lured her to the meeting. He falsely claimed their child had fallen ill.

Amuzu separated from Lamptey five months earlier. This separation followed repeated abuse incidents. She had previously reported four separate incidents to police stations. However, authorities took no action on the reports. Ultimately, justice only moved forward after the video went viral. The circulation of the viral domestic assault video drew widespread condemnation. Therefore, the case highlights severe police inaction on domestic violence complaints. It also underscores the crucial role social media now plays in prompting justice.

Police arrested Lamptey and two of his siblings on November 17. The siblings are Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey. Subsequently, a Magistrate Court remanded all three suspects on November 19. They appeared before the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU). Lamptey faces charges under the Domestic Violence Act for physical assault. Meanwhile, his siblings face additional charges. They allegedly conspired to threaten a female tenant. This tenant was suspected of recording and sharing the viral domestic assault video.

All three suspects must reappear before the court on December 3, 2025. In the wake of the arrests, the Ghana Police Service urgently appealed to the public. They asked the victim or anyone with credible information about her whereabouts to contact the nearest Police Station immediately. The Police assured the public that they would handle all information with utmost confidentiality. The incident sparked a controversial public discussion. For instance, a young lady alleged the predominance of domestic violence in Ga communities. This painful case requires continued public scrutiny.
